Can I have a drink....?

Whereas the Bible only speaks against drunkenness, Islamic teaching shows that any alcohol, in any form or amount, is sinful. In Saudi it is not even allowed in the country, and they go to great lengths to make sure non does enter. But they did build a bridge to Bahrain, and every weekend thousands of Saudi's come here to drink (and find loose women, but that's something else all in itself). It was a bit of an odd experience, I came here thinking that there would be only alcohol in the odd westerners place, but nope, the Arabs are right into it. They drink in places where they cannot be seen by others in their community that do not agree with the practice, so that they can maintain their pious public face(very very very important here). Its kinda funny actually. But as the post I just posted said - nominalism is massive here. Also funny is that the church here has the same split on the issue as in North America - they whole 'no, its wrong wrong wrong, you touch it your life will come apart at the seams!' or 'I don't, but you can, go ahead, just don't get drunk' or 'I drink, its delicious'. Odd how these same issues pop up everywhere. Though I think I was just not expecting this, and I think some of you out there are sharing my surprise.
