Daytime shut down

So as I said in a post or so ago, I was out with Americans yesterday. As we were driving around, it was about 1pm and all the shops were closing up. By this point I just take this as par for the course, but my American friends are apparently still surprised by it. "How come they're shutting down in prime business hours? Are they just tired of making money today?". I had to chuckle to myself over those comments. I tried to explain to them that these were not prime business hours and in fact its nap time. Prime business is later at night in all reality. They didn't really believe me, but I guess that will be for them to find out and hear from a couple different sources so that they buy it. I guess they don't realize that things are just done differently here, and that although there is Americanisms all around us, people do things quite differently then them. Its nice to know that I have gotten used to this one cultural thing and that it just seems 'normal' to me now. Though now-a-days you really can tell why they do it. You go out in the afternoon and your covered in sweat the moment that you walk into the sun. Its just nastily hot out there. You stay in the A\C from late morning to early evening. I am still getting used to this a bit though, thinking that I should go do my errands at 9pm does not seem to 'normal' to me yet. Though I'm sure I'll get there.
