The African Service
About... oh 3 or so weeks ago a bunch of the Africans in the church got together and lead the worship for the Friday morning service. It was a whole lot of fun. I was still living with the Igaharo's at the time, and they had the practices at their place, so I got to hear the music a whole bunch. They always laughed at me because whenever I walked past where they were practicing I had a tendency to dance past. In my defense, with that sort of music its really hard not to start dancing. And they were all dancing to, because its just what they do, so it was all good. Then on the day of, I was getting ready for church and I have a knock on my door, and its Peter (the father) and he says that he has a surprise for me. So I follow him and there he has a traditional african outfit for me (http://www.flickr.com/photos/matthew_chute/2575447983). So that was pretty fun. Though as was pointed out to me at church, the African dress very very closely resembles Indian dress as well. And come to think of it, it looks very Arabic as well... But anywho, that service was great fun. They danced in and danced the whole time they were singing. I danced along as well in the pews (and I'm a baptist... guess I'm just a rebel at heart) though when I looked back no one else was dancing, which was all sorts of disappointing. Though this is how people are I guess. And I don't really see Indians as being the biggest of dancers in church. They have a very formal culture when you get down to it, especially in relation to North America. So that was the African service, I wish all of you could of been there as well, it was quite the experience.
